Viking Dishwasher Quits Partway and Blinks
A flashing panel on a Viking dishwasher that stopped halfway is usually the control reporting a problem, not the machine giving up at random. When it happens in a Bellevue kitchen, what we usually find is water that stopped arriving, then water gathered where it should not be, and only after those a part that has failed. Note what flashed and when, and ring Viking Repair Bellevue on (425) 696-2636.
What we usually find
- Most often
Water that stopped coming in: the shut-off valve under the sink closed or half-closed, or the house supply off for plumbing work. Current Viking models pause, flash a water warning and carry on once water returns.
- Sometimes
Too much water inside, or a leak from a component. Current Viking models notice it, flash a separate warning and try to pump the water out; a warning that will not clear is a fault for service.
- Rarely
A part that has failed outright, such as the heater, a pump or the control itself. The flashing returns on every cycle even with the valve open, the filters clean and the floor dry.
Flashing that is not a fault
On current Viking 3 and 5 Series panels, a flashing Start key means the programme is waiting rather than broken. It wants Start pressed and the door shut straight afterwards; leave the door open too long and the wash never begins.
Opening the door mid-wash can look like a breakdown too. Unless a button is pressed within five seconds, the machine switches itself off where it stands, and the half-run programme sits there as though it had quit.
Once, or every time
A single stop on the day the water was off for a plumbing job, with normal washes since, needed nothing but the valve opened again. A machine that halts at the same point on every cycle has a fault that will not clear by itself, and resetting it again and again only hides where that point is.
Older Viking dishwashers use different displays, so the useful thing to pass on is exactly what you saw, not a guess from a chart for another model.
Water in the base deserves particular care. If the machine pumps out for a long time on its own, or you see water under the front edge, stop running it, close the supply valve and leave the base for the visit.
Safe checks before you call
-
Write down what it is doing
Before touching anything, note which light flashes, how many times between pauses, and roughly how far into the programme the machine gave up.
-
Open the valve under the sink
Find the shut-off valve that feeds the dishwasher, usually in the sink cabinet, and make sure it is fully open. Viking's troubleshooting lists a closed inlet tap among the reasons a machine will not run.
-
Look for foam or a wet floor
A tub full of suds points back at the detergent: dishwasher detergent only. Water on the floor at the front belongs to the leak page, and is worth mentioning when you call.
-
Reset it once, not over and over
Switch the machine off with its On/Off key, wait a minute, switch it on and run a short programme. If the same flashing returns, do what Viking's manual advises for any malfunction: switch it off and close the water valve.
-
Stop and hand it over
If none of that changes what the Viking is doing, leave it there and ring Viking Repair Bellevue on (425) 696-2636. Tell us what you already tried; it narrows the visit before we set out.
Asked about this
Can you tell what my blink pattern means from a phone call?
It often narrows things a long way. What flashed, the model and the moment the cycle stopped usually separate a supply problem from water inside the machine or a failed part, which tells the technician where to start. On current models the model number is on a label you can read with the door open; give it to Viking Repair Bellevue on (425) 696-2636.
