Viking Range Misbehaving After a Remodel or Reinstall

When a Viking range starts acting up in a Bellevue kitchen straight after a remodel or a move, what we usually find is an installation that was disturbed, not a range that broke. Burner parts go back crooked, new floors leave it off level, and a new outlet or supply is not quite right. Viking Repair Bellevue sorts out which on (425) 696-2636.

What we usually find

  1. Most often

Burner heads and caps set back wrong after the range was cleaned or moved. A head turned or not seated on its base leaves a burner that sparks on, lights late or burns unevenly.

  2. Sometimes

The range sitting off level on new flooring. The body has no rigid frame, so Viking's service manual warns that even a slight tilt pulls the oven door out of line; its baking table blames lopsided cakes on it too.

  3. Rarely

A supply put back not quite right: an outlet with no ground or reversed polarity, which Viking lists as a cause of endless sparking, or a gas supply valve left off, which leaves every igniter sparking with no flame.

What a reinstall disturbs

A range that worked the week before the work started and misbehaves the week after is rarely a coincidence. Moving it strains the flexible gas connector and the power cord, new tile or hardwood changes the height it stands at, and grates, caps and burner heads get lifted off, stacked and put back by whoever finished last. Sanding and drywall dust settle into burner ports and around igniters too.

Whether the job was a Somerset kitchen rebuilt around the range or a move across Bellevue, the same few things account for most of it. Anyone bringing a range from a propane house to a natural-gas one should know that Viking lists the wrong gas type among the causes of large, yellow or distorted flames, and its manual puts any change between the two gases in a technician’s hands, never the owner’s.

When it is more than the move

If the caps are seated, the range is level, the power is on and the trouble carries on, the move may simply have exposed a part that was already on its way out, such as an igniter or a burner switch. The diagnosis is the $89 visit, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead.

Safe checks before you call

  1. Reseat every cap and burner head

With the cooktop cold, lift each cap and check that the head beneath sits flat and square on its base, not turned onto the igniter. On the current 5 Series each burner carries an arrow that should point to the back.

  2. Put a spirit level on an oven rack

Lay a level on a rack inside the oven, front to back and then side to side, and note which way the bubble drifts. Adjusting the legs means moving the range, so leave that to the installer or the technician.

  3. Check the breaker before anything else

If nothing sparks or lights at all, make sure the breaker feeding the range is on; a circuit switched off during the work is easy to overlook. Do not pull the range out to reach its plug.

  4. Shine a flashlight behind it, touch nothing

Viking's manuals ask owners to confirm with a flashlight that the anti-tip bracket packed with the range is engaged, at the corner the manual names. Look only: do not move the range or touch the gas connector.

  5. Stop and hand it over

If none of that changes what the Viking is doing, leave it there and ring Viking Repair Bellevue on (425) 696-2636. Tell us what you already tried; it narrows the visit before we set out.

Asked about this

  • The installer says the range is fine, but every burner keeps clicking. What now?

Clicking that never stops straight after a reinstall can trace to the outlet rather than the range: Viking lists an ungrounded supply or reversed polarity among the causes, alongside wet or dirty igniters. Ask the electrician to check the receptacle before any range parts are changed. If it tests correct, Viking Repair Bellevue takes it from there on (425) 696-2636.
