Viking Wall Oven Display Is Blank or Dim
Try the oven light before you read any further, because it separates the two halves of this fault. A dark display with a dead light is a supply problem and the breaker usually tells the rest of the story. A dark or flickering display with the light still working is the electronic case. What we usually find
- Most often
No power reaching the oven. The display, the oven light and the heat have all gone together, usually after a tripped breaker, a blown fuse or an outage.
- Sometimes
The display or the board behind it. The oven light still works, so power is arriving, but the digits are dark, faded in patches or flickering.
- Rarely
Nothing broken at all: the power blinked, and the display is showing dashes or a flashing clock while it waits for the time to be set again.
One display, two ovens
On Viking’s 5 Series and 7 Series built-in ovens the heat is set on knobs, and the small digital display is a timing centre for the clock and timers. A double oven gives each cavity its own pair of knobs but shares that one display, so a dark display on a double points at neither oven in particular.
Dim is not the same as dark
A display that has faded in patches, flickers as the oven heats, or lights only some of its segments is getting power and failing to use it. That is the display or the board that drives it, and it is the work the price band on this page covers. A display that stays dark while the oven light works belongs in the same place.

Press the oven light switch
Viking's own troubleshooting starts here. If the lights inside the oven come on, power is reaching it; if they stay dark along with the display, the supply is the suspect.

Find the oven's breaker
Look for one sitting between on and off. Push it fully off and then back on, once. If it drops again straight away, leave it off: that is a fault, not a glitch.

Think back to the last outage
A flicker or storm cut the night before is worth mentioning. If the display shows dashes, set the clock; on these ovens the time of day has to be set before any timed program will run.

Two clocks that disagree
On models with a round analogue clock on the panel, Viking has the analogue and digital clocks synchronised again after a power outage. The use-and-care manual shows the button sequence.
